Traffic Control

Vehicle Priority System

A site-specific vehicle priority and traffic-light control system for managing one-lane roads, loading docks, parking entries and restricted vehicle movements.

Overview

Controlled vehicle flow through constrained site access roads

Holman Engineering’s Vehicle Priority System has been installed in locations including Castlereagh Street under the ANZ tower, where traffic entering and exiting a single-lane road required controlled direction and monitoring.

The system uses induction loops and LED traffic lights to constantly monitor and direct vehicle movements. It is designed to ensure that drivers are only directed onto the road when the system has determined it is safe and appropriate to do so.

This type of solution is suitable for sites with shared loading docks, employee parking zones, constrained ramps, single-lane access roads or entry points where manual traffic controllers would otherwise be required.

System Design

Automated detection and traffic-light control

Designed around each site’s access layout, waiting areas, vehicle paths and emergency requirements.

DetectionInduction loop monitoring

Vehicle detection loops monitor traffic entering and exiting the controlled lane.

ControlLED traffic lights

Traffic lights at entry points direct drivers and prevent conflicting vehicle movements.

LogicSite-specific programming

Control logic can be programmed to reduce prolonged waiting and suit the practical movement patterns of the site.

SafetyEmergency manual mode

Manual switching options can be included for emergency evacuation or special site operation.

OperationsLoading dock and parking support

Suitable for sites with shared loading dock access, employee parking zones or multiple controlled entry points.

EfficiencyReduced need for manual control

Automated priority control helps keep traffic flowing without relying on costly manual traffic controllers.

Benefits

Keep traffic moving through difficult site layouts

The system gives operators a controlled, automated way to manage vehicle priority and movement conflicts.

  • Helps prevent opposing vehicles entering a single-lane access road at the same time.
  • Reduces unnecessary waiting through site-specific priority logic.
  • Supports loading dock, employee parking and controlled-access environments.
  • Provides manual switching options for emergencies or special operating conditions.
  • Improves traffic flow without requiring permanent manual traffic controllers.
