Prisoner Movement Systems

Currently being used within a number of undisclosed Australian prisons, the Prisoner Movement System tracks a prisoner’s journey from point to point within the prison through the use of an encoded swipe card.

The prisoner is provided with a swipe card, encoded with their unique identification number. Prison staff can setup any trip within the prison they want to, with allowable routes, allowable time windows at each checkpoint and the ability to raise an alarm should the prisoner not arrive at a point by a configurable time.

At each checkpoint, the guards can verify:-

  • Destination
  • Time window
  • Prisoner’s identity

The system is completely self-managed by the prison and is available in two modes:-

  • Low Security – The prisoner’s swipe-card will unlock the door at the checkpoint automatically if it fits within the configured criteria.
  • High Security – The prisoner’s swipe-card will bring information up on a workstation at a checkpoint which allows the prison guard to make a decision as to whether to allow the prisoner through the door or not. The guard can validate the prisoner’s identity and journey information on the workstation.

The system is written by Holman Engineering and can be tailored to suit any application.
